Tom Baker ready for Doctor Who reprise. Tom Baker hasn't been approached to star in a special episode of 'Doctor Who', but says he would return - if he can have a say in the script.

Tom Baker wants to return to 'Doctor Who' - but only if he can vet the script.

Despite recent rumours all the actors who have played the title character will be reunited in a special episode for charity, Tom, insists he has not yet been approached to appear.

The veteran actor - who played the Time Lord in nearly 200 episodes across the 70s and 80s - said he would be open to the idea, but would want to be involved with the script.

He said: "They should try and do something like that and they should get a nice jolly script.

"I don't know what it will be like and they haven't approached me yet and I'd want to have some say about the script."

The 75-year-old star says he is amazed at how much the show has changed, citing the number of love scenes given to current Doctor David Tennant, believing that is what draws fans, rather than its special effects.

He added: "I think it is quite difficult now to surprise an audience with special effects, you may please an audience, but visually you can't actually amaze an audience can you?

"In a sense you just watch them trying, but if people can appear and disappear and walk through walls and disappear and then carry on fencing or kissing girls, that amazes me.

"Of course they didn't do that in my days, and I don't want to be a reactionary old fart about that, but in my days, it never occurred to me to try and kiss a girl."

Tom Baker 'interested in Doctor Who reunion' Former Doctor Who actor Tom Baker has said he would be interested in taking part in a reunion show for Children In Need – but only if he was allowed to vet the script.

There have been rumours that show bosses are planning a special edition reuniting all the surviving actors who have played the Time Lord, but the 75-year-old said he had not yet been approached about the idea.

Baker, who appeared in nearly 200 episodes of the cult show in the 1970s and 80s, said he was "amazed" at all the kissing done by the last Doctor, David Tennant, and thought the show's special effects were losing some of their impact, he added.

"I think it is quite difficult now to surprise an audience with special effects," he said, "you may please an audience, but visually you can't actually amaze an audience can you?

"In a sense you just watch them trying, but if people can appear and disappear and walk through walls and disappear and then carry on fencing or kissing girls, that amazes me."

Baker said his approach to the Doctor was to treat him as an alien, and this did not fit with Tennant's flirty approach.

"Of course they didn't do that in my days, and I don't want to be a reactionary old fart about that but in my days, it never occurred to me to try and kiss a girl," he said.

"I didn't even know how to shake hands with them."

Baker starred in a two-part Doctor Who special for Children In Need in 1993 with fellow Time Lord actors Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker and Jon Pertwee, but said he would consider doing something similar this year.

"They should actually try and do something like that and they should get a nice jolly script with them," he said.

"I don't know what it will be like and they haven't approached me yet and I'd want to have some say about the script.

"I'm not asking for Tom Stoppard to write the script but for it to be as I remember it and as the others remember their time."

A new series of five Doctor Who adventures on audio book, with Baker playing the Time Lord, will be released in September.
